AdSense vs Ezoic – Which One is Better?

If you are planning to monetize your content, you might thought about Google AdSense vs Ezoic. Because these are buzzwords these days. But which one to choose? This post will help.

Monetizing content has never been easier as today with so many options available in hand right now. Google AdSense and Ezoic are great to monetize your site through showing ads.

Ezoic is an advertisement testing and optimization platform which uses machine learning largely to power the service. Ezoic might be an AdSense competitor, but funny enough that it’s actually a Google certified publishing partner for publishers.

Ezoic does recommend not to mix it up with traditional ad tech or ad networks. They are a platform with multiple products for publishers. As proven via many publishers’ testimony, Ezoic is considered as a source of pure ad revenue.

On the other hand, we all know AdSense from somewhere already. AdSense is that giant monetization platform that brings Google Ads advertisers and website owners in a place to benefit both parties. Google AdSense lets website users earn money from their online content. It shows ads mainly from Google Ads (ex AdWords).

Ezoic vs AdSense has always been a tasty topic to chat about. Let’s talk about both opportunities so that you as a content publisher could determine which works better for you.

Eligibility

Ezoic requires some conditions to monetize content on your website. Ezoic works fine with every CMS and host. Ezoic also supports websites of every kind. It is recommended by Ezoic to have an average of 10,000 sessions per month to be eligible for the Ezoic monetization program.

Ezoic suggests to acknowledge Google’s Ad Policy too. Your website content need to be original to be eligible for Ezoic monetization program and also should have a track record of identifiable traffic.

On the other hand, AdSense requires some eligibility boxes to check too. First of all, you have to be over 18 years of age. You also have to be the owner/manager/controller of the site you’re applying to AdSense for.

Identical rules as Ezoic like having unique contents and real traffic is also a strong point to get Google AdSense. Circulating copyrighted work is prohibited too. The site you’re applying to AdSene for should have technical pages and recommends to be at least six months old by Google.

Looking at requirements for both Ezoic and Google AdSense, we can say that these two require almost identical rules to be eligible for their monetization program.

Setup & Configuration

Configuring ads on your site is a process that’s complexity depends on personal preference. But at an instance, AdSense seems easier to set up than Ezoic. Setting up Ezoic for the first might seem harder for the first time.

On the other hand, setting up AdSense isn’t a complex process. You just need to insert some code into your site.

Automation

Ezoic uses AI and machine learning for layout its ad tester, ad unit placement etc. Google AdSense also has auto ad placements. But Ezoic seems to be more advanced in this case (to test ads for better ad rates. Though Google owns a large amount of ads, Ezoic is catching up too.

Impact on Website UX

Ezoic has website acceleration service, which costs some extra bucks. Ezoic claims that it improves website user experience by placing ads based on the user’s behavior and so on. That is the basic implementation of Ezoic’s powerful AI.

AdSense mainly shows display ads based on the website admin’s predefined spots. Although AdSense auto ads shows ads using AI and user’s behaviors as well. Both of the platforms can show ads based on their AI. Manual placements also work for both.

AdSense vs Ezoic – Cost and Trade Offs

Ezoic is free to use. It offers paid version as well. If you use the free plan, Ezoic will show an extra ad on the bottom of your pages. They will keep the revenue only from that ad. The rest money from Ezoic’s ad partners is yours. In the paid version, you need to share 10% of your total revenue. In that case, that bottom ad won’t be displayed.

On the other hand, AdSense takes about 32% from the website publisher’s ad earnings from AdSense ads. That means publishers are going to have 68% of their revenue share. Both may make your site speed a bit slower because of extra content. It’s your part to decide which one works better for you.

You can track some AdSense metrics on Google Analytics while Ezoic provides their stats via Ezoic’s own analytics platform.

Customer Support

Ezoic offers human-controlled dedicated key-account-managers assigned to each publisher. AdSense support is based on website traffic. A site with 300K+ pageviews can access AdSense email support. Ezoic features ticket support and email feedback too.

Integration

Integration is a big part of placing ads on your site. You must first connect your site to Ezoic’s platform to use any of Ezoic’s features. There is cloud integration such as connecting your Cloudflare account or updating your name servers. Ezoic’s cloud integration is fast, secure and privacy focused. There is also a dedicated WordPress plugin to get the job done.

Google AdSense is not an easy competitor to beat either. Because of being an ad provider for countless sites out there, Google AdSense has its perks. Besides Google’s own Google Site Kit plugin, there are many other options for WordPress alone. Aside from WordPress, most of the website builders support placements for Google AdSense ads as a native feature.

AdSense vs Ezoic – Revenue Potential

To make a reasonable amount of money, you have to research your advantages and trade-offs while using any of these networks. Again, it’s another choice which goes to the hand of personal preference. Ezoic claims to be a free-to-use platform, which sounds okay. But the revenue share Ezoic distributes to ad publishers, is not mentioned anywhere as numbers.

On the other hand, AdSense made it clear everywhere that they’re the owner of 32% revenue generated via ads displayed with your content. Ezoic claims that it can increase revenue, thanks to it’s AI included in-house.

There are countless success stories of making money, while using both of these amazing platforms. Ezoic is said to generate more revenue, but many of the site owners choose AdSense in the long run as it’s owned by the search giant.

You can also earn from Ezoic’s affiliate program. You can share your Ezoic account’s affiliate link. Those who register from your link and make money, you will get a 3% amount of their revenue. No worries, Ezoic will not deduct their earnings.

Ezoic will not take the users’ earnings to pay the affiliate marketers. Rather, Ezoic will pay from the company’s fund. So everybody wins.

Payment Methods

Ezoic supports multiple payment methods including PayPal, US bank transfer via Payoneer, international bank transfer via Payoneer and prepaid card via Payoneer. Ezoic also offers payment through checks for USA and Canada only.

Google AdSense offers multiple payment methods such as Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT), EFT via Single Euro Payments Area (SEPA), Rapida and Wire Transfer. Similarly Google AdSense pays via checks as well. It’s recommended to check tax counts before using any of these platforms.

Payout Schedule

Ezoic operates on a net 30 day schedule and pays in arrears, usually within 30 days. That means users should typically get paid January’s revenue at the end of February. Ezoic’s payments typically go out any time between the 27th and 31st of the month as mentioned in their website. The minimum threshold of Ezoic’s payment model is $20.

If you want to get paid from Google AdSense, it needs to be at least $100 in amount. It sends out a month’s earnings on 21st (or so) on the next month.

Compliance Rules

There are rules for the publishers to know and practice to save their accounts from being banned on these platforms. Note that these are not requirements to meet to be able to monetize your content. These are rather rules that you have to follow regardless of your position with these two sites.

Ezoic follows the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) strictly. So should you, if you want to make your future with the site. Other rules of Ezoic are almost identical with Google AdSense.

AdSense strictly prohibits clicking on own ads. It also encourages you to keep the traffic rules by not asking or paying for the clicks on your site’s ads. It’s also recommended to keep in mind the promotion strategy of your website.
